From 2008 to 2009, Saturn experienced an amazing 57-point jump in Academic Performance Index (API) score, from 723 to 780, with no change to the school's student population or demographics.

Saturn's Principal Tracie Bryant and the dedicated Saturn faculty credit the strategies they've been pursuing over the course of the past six years for this year's dramatic jump.  And they're confident that their proven approach will yield even greater results in the coming years.

With an innovative approach to academic intervention, Saturn's administrators and faculty became personally familiar with the challenges and opportunities facing every one of their more than 500 students.  This personalized, hands-on approach, along with the introduction of proven mentoring programs like CATCH, enabled them to quickly identify and intervene with students having particular difficulty in any subject.

For the 43% of Saturn students who are English learners, teachers placed an emphasis on ensuring the students understood the 'language of testing' so they would be able to demonstrate what they know instead of struggling to understand the unfamiliar language of test questions.

The Saturn faculty particularly credit the school's commitment to arts programming, including dance, choir, orchestra, the Young Storytellers Program, and the annual Saturn Art Faire, with inspiring their students to come to school and learn.
